Recital Information at a Glance

Information and Policies

As the season progresses, updates will be emailed in our weekly e-newsletters sent every Monday and posted on our website, www.had4dance.com.  Our goal is to make the recital experience organized and pleasant for all involved – dancers, teachers, staff, volunteers, and HAD parents and patrons.

COVID-19:  Due to the ever-changing conditions in our county and state, we must ask for your flexibility and support throughout this 2023 recital season regarding covid policies.  Cal State Long Beach may have their own COVID protocols and policies that we will need to follow.  As of January 1, 2023, Cal State Long Beach requires masks to be worn indoors but does not require patrons or performers to be vaccinated or show a negative covid test.  We have no way to predict what the policy will be in June 2023.  Whatever CSULB theater policy is in effect, we are required to comply.  Preparing for and participating in a performance is a major part of dance training.  Thank you for your patience and support as we navigate the pandemic landscape and deal with factors well beyond our control.  We do this all for the dancers!

COSTUMES: Teachers have selected a costume for each class or routine.  This information can be found by logging into your HAD parent portal.  Select the class and then view the Resources tab.  Here you will find a PDF with the costume details and price.  Each costume company has its own size chart.  View the size chart in the Resources tab for each class.

Costumes are non-refundable.  Once you place your order, your costume cannot be refunded or exchanged for any reason.

To order costumes, complete the HAD Costume Order Form.  Use the size chart that corresponds to that particular costume.  Link to costume order form, costume information, and size chart can be found in your HAD parent portal by viewing the Resources tab.  Complete one costume order form per class/routine by January 31.  Starting February 1, a $25 late fee per costume will be assessed.  NOTE: Due to production shortages across our country, late orders may not be filled due to out of stock issues so please do order early!

SHOWCASE 2023: Monday, June 26th at 7:00 pm.  This special Monday show is designated for most private lesson solos, duos and trios.  Bring your younger dancer to see this show!  This is a great way to see the opportunities that lie ahead, as well as be entertained by some of HAD’s exceptional talent!

RECITAL 2023: Huntington Academy of Dance will do six performances of our RECITAL 2023, “I’ve Got A Dream”

Saturday, June 24th at 1pm, 4pm & 7pm and Sunday, June 25th at 1pm, 4pm & 7pm

Most classes will be in only one performance.  A Line-Up will be published by April 30th.  Please check it carefully to see which performance(s) your child will be dancing in.

LOCATION: California State University Long Beach – 1250 N. Bellflower Blvd., Long Beach, CA  90840, University Theater

PARKING: Like most college campuses, CSULB does charge to park on campus.  We will have an order form in June if you’d like to purchase a 8 day pass for our whole event.  This is cost effective and makes it easy on the parent.  If you only need to park on campus for one rehearsal and one show day, the best option is to purchase daily passes on campus.  You will need to purchase a parking permit on campus every day you leave your vehicle unattended. Carpooling is encouraged.

STUDIO REHEARSALS: Each class will have one DRESS rehearsal (in costume) at HAD.  These rehearsals are scheduled for Saturday, May 20th, Sunday, June 4th, Sunday, June 11th, and Saturday, June 17th.  Each dancer’s rehearsal and performance dates and times will be published by April 30th.

THEATER REHEARSALS: Mandatory to perform.  Each class will have one theater DRESS rehearsal.  These theater rehearsals consist of a technical run-thru to set lights and then a dress rehearsal run-thru.  These rehearsal dates will be published by April 30th.

THE PERFORMANCE: Each show will be approximately 1 ½ hours in length – no intermission.

TICKETS: All tickets are reserved seating.  It’s a small theater so all seats are good seats!  Pre-sale BEGINS May 1st and ENDS May 31st.  Beginning June 1st, the ticket price will increase and be sold at the face value price.  Link to purchase tickets will be published in late April.

COSTUME DISTRIBUTION:  Costumes will be distributed by May 31.  Once costumes are distributed, students should not wear or wash their costume prior to the performance.

VOLUNTEERS: Save the date to volunteer!

PLEASE NOTE: Each Pre-Ballet/Tap, Primary, Ballet level 1A & 1B, Standard 1, Grade 1, Tap Beginning, and Tap/Jazz Combo class must have two Class Chaperones.  Levels 2, 3 and 4 will also require chaperones.  Class chaperones will not need to purchase a ticket to the show and they will be able to see their child perform from side-stage.  Costumes will not be distributed until the class has the required number of chaperones.

RECITAL CLASS CHAPERONE MEETING:  Stay tuned for more info and plan to join us for a meeting in late May.  At the meeting a $50 tuition certificate will be raffled!  Thank you for your generosity with your time ensuring our students are well cared for during the shows!  Please sign up for all other volunteer positions  in late April.

PARENT PREVIEW WEEK: Dancers bring your costumes and parents will see a preview the last 15-20 minutes of class June 12th through the 17th.  Parents, this is your chance to take photos and videos!

RECITAL IS OPTIONAL: In order to participate, you must be willing to cooperate with the policies in this bulletin.  Please check your calendar to be sure you are available for all dates listed before ordering costumes.
